Retailers are throwing money at their stores and operations in order to improve them and increase their efficiency. The Retail and Tourism Union claims that roughly CZK 10bn is being spent on store investments, with the total between 2015 and 2018 reaching CZK 46.2bn. The union’s president Tomáš Prouza claims that retailers are being foced into the improvements because of the highly competitive nature of Czech retail. The hypermarket and supermarket operator Albert (which belongs to Ahold Delhaize) invested CZK 2bn over the past two years, writes the deaily E15.cz, including work on its stores’ sales floors, cooling equipment, furniture and lighting. Hypermarket operator Globus company will introduce a new sales area concept in České Budějovice, with lower shelves, better organized trups of goods and spaces for seniors.
