Alza.cz rolling out bike deliveries

6 March 2019

In the first phase of a pilot project, Alza.cz was delivering 300 packages to its customers in central Bratislava by electric bike. The online retailer will now expand the service, which it claims is more flexible at handling deliveries during peak traffic hours as well as being more environmentally friendly. But its fleet of electric bikes currently stands at just three and they service primarily the pedestrian zones and the Old Town, averaging 13 deliveries on weekdays only. Alza.cz opted for bike deliveries in these areas because of tight restrictions on delivery vehicles in the center of Bratislava. The company claims its drivers have delivered everything from televisions to monitors to a clothes dryer or an ironing board. Bike deliveries have become popular in the city and the serice is expected to expand to Petržalka and potentially Prague.
