Alza.cz reports that it sold goods worth CZK 2.4bn during this year’s Black Friday sales, however it’s counting transactions dating back to Nov. 12. On the actual Black Friday, which was November 23, sales totalled CZK 250m with the biggest volume of orders coming in for mobile phones, notebooks and household electronics. In all, the company sold nearly 2.4 million items. But while the online retail sector continues to grow, Hospodářské noviny reports of a type of consolidation that’s taking place. It writes that Zoot.cz, which specializes in online fashion retailing, is in talks with the second largest online retailer in the country, Mall.cz. The idea is for Zoot.cz to sell its goods on Mall.cz on a commission basis. Fashion retailers are having difficulties turning a profit because such a high percentage of purchases are returned.
