Retail sales growth slows in September

6 November 2018

Retail sales growth in September slowed compared to a year ago to 1.4 percent from 4.2 percent in August. However, according to the Czech Statistics Office, after removing seasonal influences, revenues rose by 2.5 percent in September and by 3.7 percent in the third quarter of the year. The biggest growth of all (16.7 percent) in September came from on-line sales. A total of 9.3 percent growth was recorded for computer and communication equipment. Clothing sales, on the other hand, fell 3.7 percent. There’s growing suspicion that the Czech economy is slowing following slower GDP growth and a halt to the upwards march of residential prices.
