The East Side Mall in Berlin opens today next to the Mercedes-Benz Arena where Warschauer Strasse turns into the Oberbaum bridge. The new shopping center by FREO and RFR will offer 24,000 sqm of retail space in 120 stores on three levels plus a 3,000 sqm fitness center, a food court and nearly 5,000 sqm of additional gastronomy offerings. With the nearby Ostbanhof plus an underground, Sbahn tram and bus lines on site the project is expected to enjoy strong access to visitors with 90,000 commuters per day going by. Local media put the current occupancy rate at 90 percent. Berlin continues to see a frenetic pace of development, including the opening six weeks ago of the Schultheiss-Quartier shopping center in Moabit.
