An amendment to the Czech law on retail opening times would remove restrictions on wholesalers to be closed on holidays. Coalition government parties are supporting the bill, with one of their arguments being that there are businesses (including restaurants) that can open during the holidays who rely on daily purchases from wholesalers. The chairman of TOP 09 Miroslav Kalousek says the law itself is a joke. “It puts pointless limitations on businesses, it annoys absolutely everyone, it creates chaos so let’s admit that it hasn’t worked out and cancel it,” he says.
