Tesco ending midnight shopping for Czechs

15 August 2018

Tesco is cutting back on its opening hours in the Czech Republic. Having pioneered the concept of giving shoppers until midnight, its supermarkets and hypermarkets will begin shutting their doors at 10 p.m. beginning in September. The server E15 reports that the British retailers claims it’s simply reacting to current levels of demand. “We’ve made the change for operational reasons at about 15 stores around the country. In these late hours, there aren’t many customers shopping,” said spokesman Václav Koukolíček. But company employees claim the real reason is an inability to hold on to enough workers to keep the stores open. E15 describes the news as the latest example of how Tesco is reducing its footprint in the Czech Republic.
