Retail sales rose 8.2 percent in January year on year from 4.6 percent in December in figures that included non-food goods, fuel, groceries, but not cars. The biggest impact on sales came from online sales according to new research by the Czech Statistics Office. It writes that sales rose in January by 0.8 percent, with grocery spending 2.3 percent and non-food item sales jumping 1.5 percent. Online sales rose 23.8 percent in January compared to a year ago, with stores selling computers and telecommunications reporting an increase in sales of 30.6 percent, 18.3 percent for those selling goods for homes and fashion and shoe stores doing 8.5 percent more in business.
