Hagan Homes, a major Northern Ireland residential developer, has said it will begin accepting payment for homes in Bitcoin. Its MD Jamesy Hagan told the Belfast Telegraph it was necessary to keep step with the times in order to attract customers. “There has been a significant growth in the use of Bitcoin worldwide and our acceptance of this new channel reflects our willingness to respond to the market,” he said. The company produced turnover of GBP 18m in 2016/17, completing 207 homes on 15 sites last year, a figure he expects to grow further due to an increasing number of international investors establishing businesses in Northern Ireland. “Of course, there are some risks to using Bitcoin for payment due to the cryptocurrency’s volatility, but buyers and sellers are finding creative ways to deal with these challenges,” he said.
