Samsung closing Slovak factory due to labor shortage

29 January 2018

Samsung is closing one of its two Slovak factories according to the daily SME, which wrote that the decision was taken for reasons of efficiency. It quotes the company’s director Ján Nemašík as saying that “The company decided to consolidated its factories in Voderady and Galante with the goal of making the production process in Slovakia more efficient. Employees in the Voderady plant will be able to move to the plant in Galant, which is around 20 km away. Samsung produces LCD modules in the Voderady plant which are then installed in the televisions produced in Galant. Sme writes that Samsung has been unable to find enough employees and that it’s decided that raising wages would not solve the situation.
