The Czech daily Lidové noviny is reporting that the Dr.Max chain of pharmacies has acquired A & D Pharma, a Romanian group that operates 600 Sensiblu and Punkt pharmacies in the country. In all, Dr.Max, which is owned by the Penta financial group, now runs a chain of 631 outlets in Romania, making it the country’s largest. The daily cites anonymous (but trustworthy) Romanian sources as estimating the sale price to have been around €350m. Dr.Max trades in Romania under the brand name ARTA. A & D Pharma produced sales of €964m in 2016, which would bump Dr.Max sales across the entire group up to €2.3bn, making it one the four largest pharmacy chains in Europe. There are 423 Dr.Max outlet in the Czech Republic, 400 in Poland and another 273 in Slovakia.
