About 25.6 percent of the Hungarian population, or 2.46 million people, were classified as either poor or at risk of social exclusion in 2016, according to the Central Statistical Office (KSH). The data shows that the total dropped by 0.7 percentage points compared to 2015. KSH writes that that 14.5 percent of Hungarians were experiencing a serious deprivation of material goods, 13.4 percent were poor relative to their income, and 4.9 percent were living in households with very few job opportunities.
