Amazon has started testing its new drone program to deliver goods to customers. The American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a special “experimental airworthiness certificate” to Amazon in March, allowing the company to research, test and train its Prime air delivery drones outdoors.
Amazon unveiled its ambitious drone plans in December 2013, but it filmed the highlight video for the program outside the US to avoid running afoul of FAA regulations. A year later, the company threatened to take its operations overseas if the FAA didn’t allow it to begin performing outdoor testing.
