Auchan fined HUF 10m in Hungary

23 August 2012

Auchan Hungary Ltd received a HUF 10 mn penalty from the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH). The penalty was given because according to GVH, Auchan conducted a promotion campaign in August 2010 in which it claimed to be selling Hungarian products, and appealed to customers to buy the products on that basis. By law, only products that have been made from Hungarian materials by a Hungarian company, or made in Hungary or by Hungarians can be labelled as such. Auchan could not prove that the sold goods through the campaign were actually Hungarian.
