Austrian Railways put on part-time contracts

13 April 2020

Austrian Railways (OeBB) has been forced to take the cost-saving measure of placing 10,000 of its employees on part-time contracts. The move followed an agreement with the Workers’ Council, and will primarily affect those sectors of the group that currently that are currently under-utilized. The same solution is being employed by the Rail Cargo Group, as the company is currently hauling just 25 percent of what it did one year ago. Employees of Postbus which specializes in transporting students will also be re-employed on a part-time basis.
