Azerbaijan denies plans to buy Hungarian debt. The State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) said in a statement that it is not planning to purchase Hungarian bonds or any other assets in Hungary. The first reports of such a plan emerged in early August. Later, an official from the government’s Debt Management Agency said that the government is not planning to do so until an agreement with the IMF is reached. Information on the purchase of Hungarian paper by Azerbaijan was also affected by the release of an Azerbaijani soldier who had been imprisoned in Hungary.
