Bank of England issues launderable 5 pound note

13 September 2016

The Bank of England have issued a plastic GBP 5 note, which features World War 2 English PM Winston Churchill. The bank has said that the new banknotes will provide better security against counterfeiters and are strong enough to survive a “spin in a washing machine,” as the London Stock Exchange have explained. The new note is printed on “thin flexible plastic resistant to dirt and moisture,” according to the bank, and it can last 2.5 times longer than the paper notes. It also features an image in gold at the front of the note and silver on the back to ensure that counterfeiting will be increasingly difficult.
