Bars and restaurants ordered shut by 10pm

23 September 2020

The new Ministry of Health Roman Prymula has announced new restrictions designed to help reduce the speed of the spread of coronavirus infection. These include orders that bars and restaurants close by 10 pm each night, a move that industry experts warn would reduce daily revenues by 30 percent and cost up to 30,000 people their jobs. Crowds at sporting events will be limited to just 2,000 while indoor events are expected to be limited to just 50 people. The number of new cases rose by more than 2,300 on Tuesday, with a record 442 positive findings recorded in Prague, including the mayor of Prague 1 Petr Hejma. The Netherlands has placed toughened its stance on the entire country, demanding that all people arriving from the Czech Republic undergo a period of quarantine. Previously, the measure was directed only against residents of Prague. Universities have already shifted to remote learning regimes, but the government will urge all schools to close on Friday to create an extra-long weekend, as Monday is a national holiday.
