Portuguese operator Jeronimo Martins is planning to add 600 new stores to its Polish discount chain Biedronka over the next two years, with 300 new openings planned for 2014. The company is also preparing to open three new distribution centers in the country. JM has made developing its Polish discount chain a key goal for the company.
The investor opened 280 new stores last year, expanding the network to 2,393 locations around the country. It also opened two distribution centers. “We’re well prepared for further expansion, despite the difficult market environment,” said Pedro Soares dos Santos of Jeronimo Martins.
