Qatar Airways has reinstated its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on its route from Prague to Doha, Qatar, after a pause caused by the covid-19 pandemic. Today at 12:42 it landed again at Ruzyně airport. The wide-body aircraft is expected to bring more comfortable travel and increased capacity on the busy route. Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport, and Michael Maass, Director of Central Europe Region of Qatar Airways, said today.
The Dreamliner is capable of carrying a large amount of cargo, Pos said. “It is in Prague Airport’s interest to serve this market, because although there is a lot of air cargo in the Czech Republic, we have trucks leaving for some other airports,” he added. Pos also praised the cooperation with Qatar Airways, which he said is responding very effectively to the current potential of the Czech market, especially the lack of capacity.
Qatar Airways withdrew the aircraft from Prague in response to the covid-19 pandemic. According to Maass, the airline needed to reduce its flight capacity, so it decided to replace the Dreamliner with an Airbus A320. “Since then, we have seen an increase in passenger demand and a greater appetite among passengers to see and travel the world than before the pandemic,” Maass said.
According to Josef Trejbal, director of Letuška.cz, this type of aircraft will provide passengers with greater comfort in addition to high capacity. The large-capacity aircraft could reduce ticket prices to destinations in Asia and Africa, he said.
The aircraft will operate a once-a-day service to Doha and back. It will depart from Prague at 14:55. The three-times weekly service, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, will also be boosted by the existing Airbus A320. It will depart at 08:40 on these days.
