28 January 2013

Internet sales in the Czech Republic reached CZK 43bn in 2012, the equivalent of 46 standard shopping centers, writes Cushman & Wakefield. In a new report based on data from APEK and the Czech Statistics Office, C&W explains that while on average eight brick and mortar shopping centers were completed in the Czech Republic from 2001 and 2012, the growth in Internet sales represented an additional four per year.
“Both shopping centers and Internet sales are modern retail channels that have expanded rapidly in the last decade. The comparison is approximate and serves only to visualize the size of internet sales segment,” says Michal Soták, Head of Research Czech Republic & Slovakia at Cushman & Wakefield.
“Moreover, based on data from the largest sales portal, one visit to the web page generates approximately €3.5 of turnover. In actual shopping centers, each visitor generates on average approximately €7 in sales. Visitor rates to the most successful Czech internet mall is about five times higher than visitor rate to the top Prague shopping centers.” The Czech Republic currently has 128 “real” shopping centres and retail parks larger than 10,000 sqm. The average size of Czech shopping centers is 24,000 sqm.
