Catalyst Romania Investment Fund, managed by the company 3TS, acquired a 10-percent stake of the e-retailer elefant.ro through a capital increase. Ion Sturza, the e-retailer’s owner, said the investment will double the company’s annual turnover. He added that the money raised from the deal will be used for future marketing campaigns and to strengthen the company’s market presence. Catalyst Romania is the first private equity fund dedicated to Romania and financed primarily by the European Investment Fund and the European Regional Development Fund. Sturza said the company will plan a new round of funding for elefant.ro by the end of 2015, which will depend on the market and the online store’s performance.
