The Chinese company China National Machinery Import and Export has started construction on a new solar plant in Hungary. The company laid the cornerstone this week in Kaposvar in project expected to cost nearly HUF 32bn. The 100 megawatt solar plant is expected to be the largest in Central Europe. Its construction is in line with Hungary’s climate policy which targets carbon neutrality for its energy sector by the year 2050. The scheduled completion of construction work is December 2019. Attending the event marking the beginning of construction, Innovation and technology minister László Palkovics said “The solar park will contribute to developing a well-balanced and sustainable energy mix in Hungary and guarantee the country’s energy security.”
