Commercial waterfront to make way for nature reserve

4 February 2016

The Gasparilla Island Conservation and Improvement Association acquired a 31-acre tract of land in the Placida area of Charlotte County for $20.6 million. The group plans to transform the site as a wildlife and marine refuge. The property currently offers 70,000 square feet of office and industrial structures along with a hotel and a marina. These will all be razed within a year. The location lies at the entryway to the Gasparilla Island Causeway and is directly linked to Boca Grande. Ian Black Real Estate represented the vendor in a deal that has won the backing of local residents.
