After spending four years in planning, the general contractor Metrostav has begun construction on Galerie Šantovka. The new shopping mall is the first phase of a re-development of an 11 ha brownfield site in central Olomouc. In subsequent phases, office buildings and apartment blocks will also be built. Construction of the 46,000 sqm mall is scheduled for completion in autumn 2013. Benoy architects designed the mall for the investor SMC Development, which estimates the total volume of investment into the new neighborhood at around CZK 10bn.
