Czech government blocks third IKEA store on edge of Prague

6 June 2016

Czech environmental ministry has cancelled an approval to change fields along D1 motorway in Čestlice on the outskirts of Prague into a construction site. Domo Development planned an enormous retail zone there, including a third Prague IKEA store, writes aktualne.cz. The developer had already been awarded a planning permit. The environment ministry argues that the Central Bohemian Regional Authority’s approval to remove the strip of land between the D1 exits 6 and 8 from the farmland fund was against the law. In addition, there are allegations that Domo Development began the construction of infrastructure on the site before it received a construction permit, which could result in a fine of up to CZK 1m.
