Deichmann opening six stores this year

The German shoe retailer Deichmann plans to open six new locations in Poland this year, and increase its sales by 10 percent y-o-y. The company achieved its sales goal last year when it opened 25 new stores in Poland.
“We sell good products, and we’re optimizing expenses. This and the fact that we do not need any external financing to implement our development strategy help us to be confident about our future,” Wojciech Normand of Deichmann told CIJ.
The company currently has 210 stores in Poland and hopes to increase its regional network to 300 in the medium-term.
Deichmann is, however, planning to shut four of its locations this year. “It’s always about the profitability,” said Normand. “We close locations that are not performing, to open new store in new, more attractive projects.”
The company is looking for the best locations to expand its business. “These are sizable investments, large stores of at least 450 sqm. So we are looking for high-standard locations that are well-equipped and well-lit and could operate for at least 10 years,” said Normand.
