ECE presented the new interior design for City Passage Bielefeld on its booth on Expo Real. The shopping gallery was acquired by the ECE European Prime Shopping Centre Fund in 2011 and is managed by ECE. The company is planning to refurbish the asset to make it into a modern shopping center with 100 shops spread across 26,000 sqm. It received a preliminary building permit for the center over the summer.
“Municipality, politicians, trade associations, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and ECE have been working to achieve a very good solution for the refurbishment of City-Passage. We are confident that with this modernization, we can enhance the inner city area surrounding Bahnhofstrasse and can entice even more visitors from the surrounding region to come,” said mayor Pit Clausen.
The entire design concept for the refurbishment links tradition and modernism and will focus on the historic significance of the “Leinenstadt” (city of linen). The interior will recall the city’s linen and sewing machine tradition. Themes such as “linen”, “printing” and “floating shapes” feature in the interior design.
