In a €165m investment, Eleon AS started building a wind farm in Aidu, a village in eastern Estonia, this week. The farm will feature 30 turbines with a capacity of 100 megawatts. The turbines will be made wholly in Estonia. The first phase is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Eleon secured financing from Unicredit Leasing and Krediidipank. The project also includes the construction of substations in Pussi and Tuulepargi. The farm is expected to employ between 1,200 and 1,400 by 2020.
“It will be not just the biggest wind farm in the Baltic but a reference farm that will create the preconditions for the development of a fully-fledged wind technology sector in Estonia,” Andres Sonajalg of Eleon AS, told the Baltic News Service. “Let me underscore that the goal is to sell technology to other countries, the same innovative Eleon wind turbines that are used in this park.”
