The empty part of Shopping Palace at Zlaté piesky in Bratislava has changed hands and the new owner, Všetko pre bývanie, is planning to reposition the property, including rebranding it under the name M2. Martin Borkovič, chairman of the board of the new owner, says that the company plans to create a furniture department store, even though there are Möbelix, Ikea, Kika, Sconto and Asko stores in the vicinity.
M2 will offer 25,000 sqm of retail space, divided into 60 units. The new owner has already leased up 8,400 sqm of the space and has scheduled M2’s opening for spring 2016. M2 is part of the shopping center, anchored by Tesco hypermarket. It was owned by Soravia Group, which failed to lease the space after completion in 2009. An Austrian fund connected with UniCredit runs the other part of the center, which is currently undergoing a facelift.
