Endesa has been contracted by Municipality of Lisbon to provide energy for a period of one year, including the needed energy for public lighting, traffic lights and billboards. The €8m contract was granted to Endesa and will allow the municipal electricity saving about half a million euros. Endesa has been active in Portugal’s liberalized energy market since May 2002 and is currently the second largest provider of electricity, with 18 percent market share. In 2015, Endesa provided more than 7,500 gigawatt hours (GWh) (an increase of 7.5 percent,) to more than 174,000 Portuguese customers.
