The unfinished Focsani Plaza commercial center project will be put up for auction on Thursday. Bidding will start at €4.5m. The mall was scheduled for completion in early 2009, but the developer Omnium Invest abandoned the project a few months later when it failed to secure enough financing. Omnium Invest filed for insolvency in March 2011.
The project site is situated between the Promenada retail park and the Dedeman DIY store in the city of Focsani. In an investment worth €35m, Omnium Invest intended to build a 120-store mall over six acres, which would have included a cinema and a children’s play area.
