The founders of the Calif restaurant brand sold the last two functional units of the chain, i.e. the rented premises where they operated, together with the Calif brand. The two restaurants are open in the Iancului and Militari areas, Bucharest.
“We gave up the premises where the last two units operated – in fact we gave up the leases, because they were not ours – and at the same time, because we worked a lot on this brand and it would have been very sad for us to disappear, we were agree to give up the right to use the name Calif,” said Radu Tănase, co-founder of Calif.
The Calif chain was launched in 2010, and the company that operated the Calif brand went bankrupt earlier this year. Total debts amounted to RON 27.2 million, of which RON 3.8 million to the state. And the number of employees fell sharply, from 181 in 2019 to 30 employees last year.
