The spokesman for Galerie Šantovka in the city of Olomouc has spoken out against the Czech government’s plan to keep shopping centers closed until June 8. Jurar Aláč said that he was confident that the government would reconsider if it adopted a policy of eliminating risks. “We don’t understand the decision of the government to place the opening of shopping centers at the very end of the schedule and we don’t agree with it,” he told the Olomouc daily Denik. “The individual measures and the time schedule for their implementation should satisfy two basic demands: a rational justification of their importance and the effectiveness of the measures and a fair implementation in society.” Aláč argued that modern shopping centers are spacious complexes with the most modern technology that are far better equipped to organize hygienic and security measures than many older shopping destinations that are already open. Over the weekend, DIYs were allowed to open, leading to long lines of people standing far closer together than the recommended 2 meters.
