The Trans-Adriatic Oil Pipeline (TAP) has started importing natural gas in the final section of part of the pipeline in Greece, from Serres to Hieropygi (Kastoria) and the Greek-Albanian border, as part of the project’s trial run. TAP runs across the length of Greece, beginning from the Turkish border, where it connects with the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline, to Albania and eventually, Italy. TAP is betting on the long-term competitiveness of natural gas as an energy alternative and the pipeline’s initial capacity of 10 billion cubic meters will be enough to supply 7 million households in Europe.
