GUS: Polish Retail sales down 0,8% in December

In December 2020 retail sales at constant prices were by 0.8 percent lower than the year before (against a growth of 5.7 percent in December 2019). Compared with November 2020 retail sales increased by 19.8 percent, according to Statistics Poland (GUS). In the period of January-December 2020 retail sales y/y were by 3.1 percent lower (against a growth of 5.4 percent in 2019). In December 2020, the largest decrease in retail sales (at constant prices) compared to the corresponding period of 2019, as in the previous month, was noted by entities trading in textiles, clothing and footwear (by 10.9 percent against a growth of 8.0 percent the year before). Significantly lower sales were also observed in groups: solid, liquid and gaseous fuels (by 10.3 percent); motor vehicles, motorcycles, parts (by 7.9 percent). An increase in sales was reported however by units trading in furniture, radio, TV and household appliances by (3.5 percent) and entities selling food, beverages and tobacco products (by 0.7 percent), informed Statistisc Poland.
