With HB Reavis and ECE having withdrawn from plans to rebuild Hradec Králové’s worn down football stadium as part of a new shopping center development, city officials are scrambling to figure out a solution. The server hradec.idnes.cz writes that a new developer is reportedly thinking about taking over the project that would include building a shopping mall and a new football stadium next to it. If the city does not come to an agreement with the company, it may be forced to build the new arena itself.
Hradec Králové Mayor Zdeněk Fink supports a gradual reconstruction of the stadium. The server hradec.idnes.cz points to the stadium’s unique lighting pylons that were installed in 1975 and have since became a city landmark. While the original plans for the new shopping center development called for replacing them with modern lighting, the city is now considering keeping them. Giving the old lighting pylons a facelift would cost just CZK 5m.
