Hungarian government “declares war” on foreign supermarkets

The government commissioner responsible for trade Janos Lazar has suggested strengthening the protectionist direction that was announced in 2010. Lazar in an interview with national newswire MTI about a potential displacement of foreign retail chains, saying that establishment of the Hungarian national retail is essential. In order to achieve this the government wants to support the domestic production and supply chain industry against foreign imports, and see 80% of food, included processed food, to come from Hungarian producers.
