Hungary is planning to take over ownership of Magyar Gaz Tranzit, the company reponsible for the gas pipeline between Slovakia and Hungary. The Budapest Business Journal reports that the government prefers direct state control over the current arrangement, under which the company is owned by two state-owned companies. The price is to be established through a valuation of the company’s assets and the intention is for the deal to go through during September. In preparation for the move, Economics Minister Mihaly Varga submitted an amendment to the state budget in July.
