Hungary’s retail sales down 2.8 percent in May

Retail sales in Hungary dropped 2.8 percent y-o-y in May, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH). The decrease is linked to the coronavirus pandemic, with non-food retail shops taking an 11-percent hit during the month. Sales at specialized and non-specialized food shops, meanwhile, were up 1.8 percent, according to data adjusted for calendar effects. However, sales fell 13.8 percent for automotive fuel retailing. Sales between January and May were up 1.5 percent y-o-y, according to KSH data.
