Hungary’s Sunday closings law could be rescinded

31 March 2016

Market sources claim that the Hungarian government is considering allowing retail shops to remain open on Sundays. The Sunday store closure law came into force in 2015 in an attempt to provide retail sector workers with rest time and to protect their physical and mental health. As a result of Sunday store closures, Thursdays and Fridays have become the biggest shopping days, while retail workers have lost the Sunday allowances money they would have earned. Studies have also found that they are now working longer hours than before on weekdays and Saturdays.
