Ikea plans to launch an e-shop for the Czech market in 2016. Marek Feltl, who heads the Swedish furniture retailer’s operations in the Czech Republic, told the daily Hospodářské noviny that the company is considering setting up a network of smaller shops in regional cities that would sell a small assortment of goods and serve as pick-up points for the e-shop. Ikea currently operates four department stores in Prague, Brno and Ostrava. In the recent years, the company was looking for a new location to open another department store near Hradec Králové but has since put those plans on hold. Feltl said that the retailer wants to expand its storage capacity by building a new distribution center in Ostrava at the Avion shopping park. The distribution center is expected to cost €500,000.
Ikea posted 1.9-percent increase in revenues, reporting CZK 7.35bn for the last financial year, which ended in August 2013.
