INS: Retail turnover up by 8.9% in 2015

The retail turnover on the Romanian market was up by 8.9 percent y-o-y in 2015. The strong performance was driven by an increase in food, beverages and tobacco sales (+19.1 percent ) as well as retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores (+5.8 percent) and sales of non-food products (+2.8 percent), according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Retail sales (excluding sales of motor vehicles and motorcycles) in December 2015 increased by 8.6 percent m-o-m, with sales of food, beverages and tobacco up by 23.3 percent and sales of non-food products increasing by 5.8 percent. Retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores decreased by 9.5 percent.
