Following rumors that Tesco is considering exiting the Slovak market, Labaš has expressed an interest in buying the supermarket giant’s smaller operations in eastern Slovakia.
Labaš operates a network of 700 food stores under the brand Fresh in eastern Slovakia. Terno analyst Lubomir Drahovsky told Hospodarske noviny that the company ranks among the 10 most stable retail chains in the country. He also said that Tesco is considering two scenarios: it will either completely withdraw from Slovakia or sell some of its less efficient operations in eastern Slovakia. The UK retailer, however, has not publicly addressed speculation about its future on the Slovak market.
