Latvian cafe chain Double Coffee is planning to develop a franchise network in the UK. Operator DC Restorani is hoping to find more success in western countries, as it has become increasingly difficult to operate on eastern markets, board member Sergejs Plotnikovs told the Latvian News Agency (LETA). DC Restorani intends to participate in several international exhibitions and hopes to establish a franchise chain in London within the next two to three years, Plotnikovs said.
“We are currently working with several offers from European countries: England, Switzerland, Sweden. We started negotiations with England last year, so the soonest we can open a restaurant in London is either late 2017 or early or mid-2018,” he told LETA. The company is scouting location outside the city center where rents will be lower.
“We are also considering other cities that are much smaller than London,” Plotnikovs said. “Of course, we cannot predict how well the network will develop or if there will be demand for this type of service. But we do believe that this business model can develop well.” DC Restorani reported €3.96m in turnover last year, down 6 percent from 2014. Its profit also fell 70 percent y-o-y to €113,361.
