The war for control of the Czech grocery store market continues to be fought at the checkout line. In order to attract the best and brightest, Lidl is now offering a wage of CZK 31,000 to anyone who lasts three years at the company. Idnes.cz uses one checkout woman whose salary has gone up CZK 9,000 per month to CZK 28,000 over the past two years. Lidl will pay its Prague staff even more, with cash register operators set to receive CZK 32,571 after three years. The company’s spokeswoman Zuzana Holá says that thanks to is wage policy, Lidl has no problem finding employees. At the Albert chain, grocery store workers have seen their wage rise by 17 percent since January.
