Lidl is investing €2.5m into the construction of a new supermarket in Nova Dubnica near Trenčín, its 125th in Slovakia. Construction should start in June and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. It is to go up on land owned by GT – Merkel on SNP street on the outskirts of Nova Dubnica on the road connecting Trenčín with Dubnica nad Váhom. The area includes a car shop, car wash and a petrol station. Together with a parking lot, the supermarket will occupy 8,500 sqm of land. The first Lidl store in the town will compete with Coop Jednota, Tesco and Moja Samoška. Lidl entered Slovakia in 2004 and is currently supplied by two logistics centers in Nemšova and Prešov. It plans to open a new distribution center in Sereď in spring. The chain has invested €460m in Slovakia.
