Makro Cash and Carry’s new sustainability Warsaw headquarters

22 August 2024

The new headquarters of Makro Cash and Carry Polska in Warsaw stands as a model of modern architectural excellence, combining aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability in a sleek design.

The building, crafted by the PRC studio team, stretches 105 meters in length and just 12 meters in width, encompassing six floors across approximately 8,200 square meters. It is meticulously designed to serve various functions, including training and conference areas, the Macro Inspiration Academy, and office spaces for 550 employees.

The design of the headquarters, prepared by The Concept Space studio, emphasizes both employee comfort and operational efficiency. Unique to the project is the integration of acoustic ceiling solutions by Knauf Ceiling Solutions, which enhance both visual coherence and acoustic comfort.

Marek Ejsztet from Concept Space highlighted the project’s commitment to creating a harmonious workspace: “Our goal was to blend aesthetics with functionality, ensuring that every detail—from the ceiling design to the overall interior—promotes comfort and work efficiency.”

The office floors are thoughtfully designed with around 10 meeting rooms, kitchens, and telephone booths on each level. Each floor boasts a distinct character through varied materials, furniture, and graphics, in collaboration with the Makro Cash and Carry Polska marketing team. Seven different types of ceiling panels have been employed throughout the building, tailoring the design to the specific needs of each room.

Among the highlights are the HERADESIGN Superfine Sonic Elements, which are C2C Bronze certified, signifying their adherence to high sustainability standards. These panels achieve exceptional sound absorption (αw = 1.00), ensuring clear conversations and reduced reverberation. In meeting rooms, ADAGIO Acoustic+ panels are utilized for their superior light reflectance and durability, minimizing the need for artificial lighting.

Sebastian Staniewicz, Specification Manager at Knauf Ceiling Solutions, remarked on the project’s scope: “The use of seven different ceiling types showcases our ability to meet diverse customer needs while maintaining design integrity. Our multi-material portfolio supports both visual appeal and acoustic performance, essential for modern office environments.”

The design also incorporates AXONIS profiles for a refined ceiling finish and integration with lighting systems. MESH ceilings introduce an industrial flair while concealing installations and enhancing room aesthetics with their modular, durable design.

Overall, the new Makro Cash and Carry headquarters exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to office design, where every element—from acoustics to aesthetics—has been meticulously considered to foster a productive and enjoyable work environment.
