Over 8,300 property professionals descended on Cannes along the French Riviera this week to do business and discuss the latest trends in the global retail market. In the crowd were 2,300 developers and upwards of 2,400 retailers along with hundreds of representatives of investment companies and funds. A large number of new retail brands were present, including Lindex, Ted Baker, Kidzania and Lakeland. In addition to visiting hundreds of exhibiting companies, delegates had three days worth of panel discussions to choose from, with topics ranging from new concepts for classic malls, online sales strategies, and trendy retail concepts.
At the MAPIC awards, the Most Innovative Shopping Centre went to Qwartz in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, France, while the Best Retail Urban Project also stayed in France, going to Les Terrasses du Port in Marseille. The Best Retail Global Expansion prize was presented to KIKO Milano. Among the finalists were two Central European entries: Centrum Černý Most (Prague) and Plac Unii Shopping (Warsaw).
