Marks & Spencer to exit Slovakia

Marks & Spencer is planning to pull out of Slovakia. The retailer entered the Slovak market in 2007 and currently has seven stores and 174 employees. The company analyzed the output and potential of its shops in each international market it is active and says that its cross-border activities can be divided into two groups: M&S-owned stores are in the red in many markets, while franchises are successful. On 10 markets, M&S-owned shops reported a loss of GPB 45m last year, and they were in the red for the last five years.
